A guide to Newington, including history, property and amenities.

Across the South Bridge of Edinburgh, you will find Newington, a popular residential and commercial area of Edinburgh which provides access in and out of the city centre. The area dates back as far as the 12th century but really only became popular after the South Bridge was built in 1788. People whom wanted a bit more privacy (more than the developments within the North and South Bridge areas had to offer) headed a little bit further out of town and created homes which could allow for this.

Nowadays, Newington is particularly popular with students, due to its close proximity to the various Edinburgh University campuses nearby. Amongst the many tenement flats, with shops and businesses located beneath, you can also find many exquisite homes in the Newington area, all within easy reach of the many amenities nearby.
