Hogmanay in Edinburgh

Published by on

Edinburgh does Hogmanany better than anywhere else. Here's what is on offer this year.

When it comes to Hogmanay, no where does it quite like Edinburgh.

With so many great things going on in our city as we say goodbye to 2017 & welcome in 2018, we've been taking a look at the annual highlights.

Kicking things off on the 30th December is the Edinburgh Torchlight Procession. An event which sees thousands of people from across Edinburgh come together to carry torches across the city centre, eventually gathering at Holyrood Park. The event is free to watch, with torches being available for purchase to those who which to participate and join in creating a river of fire across the streets of Edinburgh, with the money rasied going towards charity.

The day after brings Hogmanay and with that, the famous Street Party and Concert in the Gardens. Watch as Princes Street goes from being the busy shopping area that we all know it as, too the place to be if you want to party through the night. Expect music, dancers, acrobats and fire eaters, all for the entertainment of those brave enough to take on the weather. This years street party will also be hosted by Sanjeev Kohli of Still Game. And if you want to be right in the centre of it all, watching the headlining Rag'n'Bone Man in Princes Street Gardens, then you'll need a ticket for the Concert in the Gardens. Whether you are on Princes Street or in the Gardens, you'll also get the best views of the Edinburgh Castle fireworks display when the clock strikes midnight.

Come the next morning, it's likely you might be feeling a little bit sensitive and what better way to waken yourself up than a dip in the River Forth? The official Loony Dook takes place at South Queensferry on the morning of the 1st but you will find it has now caught on at beaches along the Coast, including Portobello and North Berwick. Just be sure to bring a towel and a warm change of clothes!

Whatever your plans may be, all of us at Cameron Stephen & Co. wish you a Happy New Year and look forward to seeing what 2018 may bring!
