Portobello Beach

Published by on

Just because we're coming into winter doesn’t mean we can't enjoy Edinburgh's fantatic seaside of Portobello.

One of Edinburgh's favourite places to visit in the summer time, Portobello Beach is still a lovely place to take yourself in the winter.

Wrap yourself up in your warmest coat, complete with hats and gloves and brave the sea air for a winters walk along the Prom. Or if you're feeling particularly brave - or want to let your dog run free - why not get right down on the sand? And don't be too concerned when you see people actually in the sea - there is those who swim there all year round!

Along the Prom you'll find plenty to keep you going, both in scenery and in coffee! If you are close to the pottery kilns, Crumbs outside the arcades does a lovely coffee and even cakes for your dog. A little further along you'll find the Beach House where you can escape the elements with a hot drink and a bacon roll. Further still is the Little Green Van which you'll find outside Portobello Swim Centre, serving lovely fresh coffee and providing cushion for you to use on the Prom wall (and avoid sitting on the cold concrete) whilst you enjoy your drink.

If you're looking for more of a sit down meal to warm you up, back along by the Beach House you'll find Miro's, the new kid on the block which has already built up a wonderful reputation for breakfasts, lunch and dinners. Their cosy interior with spectacular sea views is the perfect recipe for a great experience. Or if you're feeling brave, you can even eat your meal at their tables outside. Next door you'll find the Espy, one of Portobello's best known pubs; great for beers, cocktails and a hearty burger. Inside you'll find a relaxed atmosphere and outside again, you'll find tables should you wish to brave the cold.
